Abstract: Skin diseases have zoonotic significance as it is spread from animal to human, animal to animal by direct contact. Skin diseases are responsible factor for discomfort, zoonoses and loss of market value, weight gain, milk production and draught power of the animal. The present study was conducted to determine the clinical prevalence of skin diseases in cattle and goats at Thana Veterinary Hospital, Panchlaish, Chittagong during January to March, 2015. Each individual case was recorded by taking data from record book of Thana Veterinary Hospital(TVH) using structured questionnaire. Then the collected data were analyzed. Diagnosis of animals (cattle and goat) was done by their clinical history and clinical signs. Out of 268 domesticated ruminants 177 cattle and 91 goats were treated where the skin diseases affected animals were 36(20.34%), 22(24.18% ) in cattle and goat respectively. The overall prevalence of different skin diseases in ruminants were lice infestation 36.2%, mite infestation (mange) 18.97%, alopecia 15.52%, dermatophytosis 5.17%, maggot wound 6.89%, yoke gall 3.45%, contagious ecthyma 3.45%, papillomatosis 3.45%, hump sore (stephanofilariasis) 2.5% and burn 1.72%.The variation of skin diseases may be variable due to host specificity of the causal agent, age resistance, ecological status, livelihood of the people of the locality, hygienic measures taken by the farmers and the seasonal factors of the year.
