Rearing and Management of Tellicherry Goat in VCRI Goat Farm, Namakkal,India

Abstract

An observational study was conducted on 75 Tellicherry goats in VCRI goat farm of Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, India to evaluate their management, growth and productive performance in this organized farm. The routine activities for the maintenance, feeding, rearing system of this breed was observed. Various informations about the productive, reproductive and growth performance as well as disease control strategy ware also collected. By this Study it is revealed that Tellicherry is a good quality of dual purpose goat breed; on an average a Tellicherry doe gives 2 litres milk per day and have a lactation period of 6 months. This breed is also a good broiler goat breed, gain 20-25 KG weight within 3-4 months. So this breed has a good prospect for rearing to fulfill the demand of protein food
