dc.description.abstract | The present study was performed to investigate the socio-economic condition and common management practices in backyard chicken farming at Madhabpur upazilla, Habiganj. The vital data of the study was carried out amid my internship program at Upazilla Veterinary Hospital Madhabpur, Habiganj from 1st February to 9th May 2021. Around 40 household farms were chosen arbitrarily based on the accessibility of chicken. This study was performed to observe the socio-economic condition of the backyard chicken farming, housing, feeding, reason of raising, waste disposal and other management practices. The information were gained from the participants through a conducted questionnaire. The information illustrated that the majority of the backyard chicken farmers were ladies 90% and most of them were illiterate 32.5%. The reason of raising chicken was primarily for selling 42.5%. Most of the family 47.5% rear chicken up to 10 in numbers and 40% provided boiled rice as supplied feed. 70% of the participants didn’t immunize their chickens, 90% of the farmers didn’t maintain commercial biosecurity and 67% followed traditional method of treatment. The selling price of an egg was Tk. 13-15 and the cost of grown-up chicken was Tk.400 to 500. In spite of having a few issues, backyard chicken farming is appeared to be profitable farming and contributed to family wage a few degree. | en_US |
