Abstract: | A diagnostic study on turkey production system in some part of Bangladesh was conducted using a orally administered structured questionnaires. The survey focused mainly on characterization of farming system, flock size and structure, housing system, feeding, marketing, breeding and ownership pattern. Descriptive statistics by means of simple percentages, and means were used to analyze data obtained. The results revealed a strong interest in the production of turkeys within the study area for both commercial and household consumption. The northern zone has highest number of turkey population in the study area compared to other zones. The results further indicated that most of the respondents used the semi intensive system of management for raising their stocks and that most of the farmers raised turkeys for commercial purpose. It was also observed that poor fertility, insufficient capital, theft, inadequate housing and lack of technical information on turkey production and disease attacks were deterrents to indigenous turkey production and appear to be the most significant limiting factors to back yard raising of turkeys |
