Abstract: The study was conducted to analyse the status of Artificial Insemination in cattle at Faridpur Sadar under the district of Faridpur. Data were collected through using a questionnaire from 150 farmers during the period of July, 2012 to August, 2012. Results show that only 80 farmers received A.I. service. 80 cows or heifers were inseminated out of which 55 became pregnant. So the conception or success rate was 68.75%. Since 2002 to date (June,2012) it has been found that a total of 13,223 cows were inseminated during last 10 years where the target population were 15,965. About 64.88% inseminated cows or heifers became pregnant by the A.I. service and 18.20% were repeat breeder. The lower success rate may be due to faulty procedure, poor quality of semen and unskilled inseminator. And other parameters were like illiteracy in Faridpur district, farming experience, farmer’s training, farming system, farm size, farm type, lack of experience and some religious superstition. The conception rate may be improved if good quality semen, correct procedure & skilled inseminator can be provided.
