Abstract: The study was conducted in an upazilla namely Badalgachi under Naogaon district during the period of July to September /2012. The study was conducted to analyze the socio-economic status of rural women & their contribution in goat rearing for poverty alleviation with the help of livestock microcredit. In total 100 families were selected for the study. The study revealed that about 40% women were landless, 21%, 23 % & 16 % were small and marginal, medium & large farmers according to their landholding sizes. The study showed that most of the women were poor, illiterate & had a high number of family members. From the study it revealed that yearly goat rearing cost in Badalgachi were Tk 2550. Whereas, yearly return of goat rearing were Tk 3350. On the other hand BCR of goat farming was 1.31 considering one lactation period. The result clearly indicated that goat farming was profitable. The result also clearly indicated that the rural women of Bangladesh contribute a large in goat rearing. But they have a little knowledge about rearing goat scientifically. Finally the study identified some important problems & some recommendations were made for development of goat farming in Bangladesh.
